What the project's about

Views on E-Cigarettes, Tobacco and their Promotion Survey

We have been funded by Cancer Research UK to gather views from the public about tobacco, e-cigarettes and their promotion. We are looking to hear from smokers and non-smokers, as well as people who use e-cigarettes and those who don’t.

We’re speaking to people across Scotland and England to gather their views. Participants will not need any knowledge about e-cigarettes or tobacco to take part!

Why take part?

You may find the survey interesting, and enjoy answering questions and sharing your views on e-cigarettes and related issues. Taking part is completely voluntary, but we do hope you will get involved.

What’s involved?

If you’d like to take part in this research, all you need to do is fill out a quick, online questionnaire that will only take 10-15 minutes to complete. Alternatively, if you would prefer, you can call us free on 0800 652 9295 to make an appointment for an interviewer to go through the questions with you on the phone, instead.

What will you ask me about?

Your interviewer will ask you about a range of topics, including your awareness, knowledge and experiences of e-cigarettes and tobacco.

Do I have to answer all the questions?

Don’t worry – you don’t have to answer any questions you don’t want to. You can simply skip to the next one.

How will you deal with my personal information?

We will treat the information you give us in the strictest confidence under the Data Protection Act 1998. You can find out more about our credentials and who we are here, and how we protect your personal information here.

Why have I been selected to take part?

When you took part in an interview for the Health Survey for England or the Scottish Health Survey, your interviewer asked if it would be okay to contact you about taking part in further research. At the time you provided us with some contact details, and your permission to get in touch about other research in the future.

Where can I find out more?

For anything not covered on here, please call 0800 652 9295 or email We'will get back to you to answer your query as soon as possible.
