Taking part in the Stakeholder Workshop

Taking part in the Stakeholder Workshop

As the first stage of the research, NatCen will hold an online workshop with key stakeholders to reflect on existing barriers to visiting National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs) faced by ethnic minority groups and to discuss current and previous initiatives to support engagement.

The workshop will take place at 10 am – 1 pm on Thursday 1st July. Participation is by invitation only.

Discussions and insights from this workshop will be crucial in shaping the direction of the research being carried out by NatCen.

Why have I been invited?

We are inviting key stakeholders who work with Defra or in the environment sector more broadly. We are keen to hear from individuals who have knowledge of the factors affecting ethnic minority groups’ engagement with National Parks and AONBs and what has already been done to address barriers to this.

Why take part?

Insights from this workshop will play an important role in setting the direction for the rest of the research project. Taking part at this early stage means that you will have a chance help shape the research priorities. Your perceptions of existing barriers and enablers to engagement will provide valuable direction to the research team for future activities and will help us focus on evidence gaps.

What will the discussions cover?

The workshop will be interactive, and the discussion will be held in small groups. The discussion will cover:

  • the factors affecting how ethnic minority groups engage with National Parks and AONBs – including enablers and barriers; and
  • what is currently being done or has already been achieved in engaging ethnic minority groups with National Parks and AONBs

How will the discussions be used?

The discussions will be audio recorded. All data will be treated confidentially in line with GDPR and will only be available to the research team. A short report covering key themes will be written up and provided to Defra. Views and any use of quotes will be anonymised. For further information, please see the privacy notice, or contact us at landscapes@natcen.ac.uk.
