Why have I been asked to take part?

Why have I been asked to take part?

This survey is part of a wider programme of research funded by GambleAware. For the first step of this programme, we (NatCen) asked several online gambling companies with the cooperation of the UK Gambling Commission to provide fully anonymised data about how some of their customers have been gambling online. The data includes information on what games have been played or what has been bet on, as well as how much money has been spent or won.

We have analysed the data and have written a report that you can view here: https://natcen.ac.uk/news-media/press-releases/2021/march/new-interim-research-findings-detail-gambling-habits-from-140,000-online-gambling-accounts-in-great-britain/.

However, as the data was completely anonymised, we were unable to draw a link between generalised customer behaviour and how people gamble on an individual basis. In order to bridge this gap, we have now created a survey for people whose accounts were active between July 2018 and June 2019 (the target period).

As someone who was actively using an online gambling account during the target period, we would like your permission to analyse your data from this period in conjunction with your survey answers. If you are willing to take part in this important next stage of our programme of work, simply complete our questionnaire, before which you will be asked for your consent to link your survey answers to your account data, enabling these comparisons to be made.
