Our pledge to you
We respect your wishes
Taking part is voluntary and you do not have to answer any questions you don’t want to. Just let your interviewer know and they will move on to the next question. You can withdraw from taking part in ELSA 50+ Health and Life at any time.
We answer your questions
Your interviewer will be happy to answer any questions you have about the study which aren’t covered here.
We ensure your safety
All our interviewers carry photographic ID cards and have been checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly the Criminal Records Bureau). We welcome any feedback you have about your experience with our interviewers.
What will happen to any information I give?
The data collected as part of ELSA is used for legitimate purposes – statistical and research purposes – only. The results are used by government, charities, academics and other influential people, when thinking about planning services which affect people aged 50 and over. So that’s things like work, pensions and healthcare which could affect you and your family.
We will treat your information in the strictest confidence under current data protection legislation. Your personal details will only be known to the team who administer and process the results of the survey at NatCen. They will be stored securely and will never be passed on to anyone else.
You will never receive any junk mail as a result of speaking to us, and we never pass on your details to other organisations for commercial purposes. As we would like to look at long-term trends, we have not set a limit on how long we would like to keep the information you give.
You have the right to request access to your data, to amend it if it is incorrect, or to request that your data is deleted (if it's still in its raw form). Participation in this research is voluntary and you have the right to withdraw at any stage.
You can contact the NatCen Data Protection Officer by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. To read our data protection policy, visit www.natcen.ac.uk. If you have a complaint, please get in touch by contacting NatCen on: email@example.com or Freephone 0800 652 4574.
