COVID-19 Support Study
The COVID-19 Support Study is a confidential survey designed to explore the experiences of those who have been asked to self-isolate as part of Scotland’s Test and Protect strategy.
We would like to understand some of the challenges you may have faced and to identify support that would help those asked to self-isolate in the future.
We are inviting those who have tested positive for COVID-19, those who have come into contact with another person who tested positive and individuals who have arrived in Scotland after travelling outside of the UK to take part.
Who is carrying out the research?
The survey is being carried out by ScotCen, a part of NatCen Social Research, Britain’s leading centre for independent social research is carrying out the research. Based in Edinburgh, we have over a decade’s experience of listening to the public and making sure their voice is heard.
While the study has been commissioned by the Scottish Government, ScotCen are an independent non-profit research body, independent of all government departments, Test and Protect/ Protect Scotland and Public Health Scotland. No data about you has been given to ScotCen from Test and Protect.
Why take part?
Your views are very important in helping us to understand more about being asked to self-isolate, the challenges self-isolation can bring and the support that would be helpful for others in such circumstances.
What will taking part involve?
The survey will take approximately 15 minutes and can be completed online by visiting https://survey.natcen.ac.uk/covidstudy and entering the unique eight-digit access code provided in your survey invitation. A telephone interview can be requested instead by calling the study freephone number on 0800 652 0601.
As part of the survey, you will be asked whether or not you would be happy to be contacted to take part in a follow-up interview by telephone or video call with a trained ScotCen researcher. The interview will last around 45-60 minutes and everyone who completes an interview will be given a £30 voucher as a thank you.
Please note that we may not be able to interview everyone who expresses an interest in taking part in a follow-up telephone or video interview.
Why have I been selected to take part?
You have been invited as you were recently asked to self-isolate after a positive COVID-19 test, as a contact of someone who tested positive or after returning from international travel. By getting involved, you will be able to help us to better understand different experiences of self-isolation, the challenges it presents and how others like yourself can be best supported in the future.
What will happen to any information I give?
We will handle your data in accordance with Art.6(1(e) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The study findings are anonymised and nothing we publish will identify you.
