Adult Oral Health Survey 2021

The survey collects information on the health of people’s teeth and mouths and their experiences of dental care. This year we are also asking about the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak on oral health and dental care. This is the sixth in a series of dental surveys carried out every ten years.

Public Health EnglandWho is carrying out the research?

The National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) is carrying out this study on behalf of Public Health England. The survey team also includes dental experts from the University of Birmingham, King’s College London, Newcastle University and University College London as well as the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Why take part?

The survey provides high quality information on the oral health of the adult population in England. Information collected will be used to monitor the health of adults’ teeth and mouths and will help the NHS to plan local dental health services. Results from the latest survey will also be compared with those from previous surveys allowing changes in dental health over time to be understood.

What will taking part involve?

We would like to hear from up to three adults (aged 16 and over) in your household. The simple steps to taking part are:

Go to: (type the address exactly as shown in the address bar of your web browser).

Enter one of the unique access codes provided on the letter you received. Please note each access code can only be used once.

Why have I been selected to take part?

We chose your address at random from a list of addresses held by the Office for National Statistics. Only addresses chosen at random have the opportunity to take part.

What will happen to any information I give?

We will handle your data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). The survey findings are anonymised and nothing we publish will identify you. The results collected will be used for research and statistical purposes only.  All identifiable information will be stored securely.
