Jonah Bury

Jonah Bury

Research Director

Children and Families

Jonah Bury joined NatCen in October 2017 and is currently working as a Senior Researcher in the Children and Families team.

In his role at NatCen, Jonah has been the project manager on a range of qualitative and mixed-methods evaluations, overseeing data collection, data analysis and reporting. Most recently, he led on the Online Tuition Pilot for the EEF and the Stability of the Early Years Workforce for the Social Mobility Commission. Jonah is currently the day-to-day lead on several process evaluations, including an evaluation of the Opportunity Area programme for the DfE. He’s also the project manager on a randomized control trial for the EEF, involving 140 settings participating in the Hanen LLLI program, a professional development course for speech and language therapists.

Before joining NatCen, Jonah taught Sociology for two years at a sixth form college in London. Prior to that, he completed his PhD in Sociology at the University of Bristol, where his thesis examined anti-discrimination policies in English professional football, with a specific focus on anti-homophobia policies. The research involved a range of semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders in the professional game. Jonah has published his research in peer-reviewed sociological journals, and has served as a reviewer for the International Review for the Sociology of Sport as well as the Journal of Sport and Social Issues.
