Julia Griggs

Senior Researcher

Children, Families & Work

Julia Griggs is a mixed methods Research Director in NatCen’s Children, Families and Work team with over ten years’ experience in applied policy research in the academic and voluntary sector.

Her areas of expertise include education policy - spanning early years to higher education, welfare reform and poverty.

Since joining NatCen in 2012 Julia has been involved in a large number of projects in the fields of education and welfare policy. These include: a qualitative exploration of SEND provision in early years settings; a multicomponent, mixed method review of the National Student Survey; and the Postgraduate Transitions study, which included an online survey of 10,000 postgraduate students.

Her recent experience also includes management of a mixed method study exploring work experience in schools and colleges and a secondary analysis project for BBC’s Woman’s Hour. She is currently leading an evaluation of the benefit cap and a qualitative study exploring students’ attitudes to an alternative student loan product.

Before joining NatCen Julia was a Research Fellow at the Department of Social Policy and Intervention, University of Oxford. She completed a Doctorate in Applied Social Science at the University of Nottingham in 2008.
